How To Prepare Steam Barramundi Fish With Chinese Five Spice? šššš
Prep Time:
10 mins
Cook Time:
20 mins
Total Time:
30 mins
Yield:
4 servings
Ingredients:
- 2 barramundi fillets, scaled
- 1 tablespoon Chinese Five Spice powder
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-2 red chilli peppers, thinly sliced (adjust according to your spice preference)
- 1 bunch of Chinese greens (e.g., bok choy or gai lan), washed and trimmed
- Salt, to tasteSteamed jasmine rice, for serving
Instructions:
- Rinse the barramundi fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Make a few diagonal cuts on the fish, about 1 inch apart.
- Rub the Chinese Five Spice powder all over the fillets.
- Place the fish on a heatproof dish that fits inside your steamer basket.
- In a small bowl, mix together the light soy sauce and sesame oil. Drizzle this mixture over the fish, making sure to pour some into the cuts.
- In a wok or pan, heat some vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced chilli peppers. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the Chinese greens to the wok or pan and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until they start to wilt. Season with salt to taste.
- Arrange the stir-fried greens around the fish in the dish.
- Fill a wok or large pot with water, about 2 inches deep. Place a steamer rack inside, making sure the water does not touch the rack. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
- Once the water is boiling, carefully place the dish with the fish and greens onto the steamer rack. Cover the wok or pot with a lid.
- Steam the barramundi for about 10-12 minutes, or until the flesh is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the fish, so adjust accordingly.
- Serve the steamed barramundi fish and greens hot with steamed jasmine rice.
